silhouette artist captures a moment in time…

Silhouette Art Event at Pink Olive in Park Slope

Wow, what an event! We had the best time hosting silhouette art extraordinare Karl Johnson at Pink Olive in Park Slope this weekend. It was the perfection combination of fun and play and sharing old traditions with a new generation. We overheard so many families talk about how they have silhouette of their parents and grandparents from back in the day. In just five minutes, customers were able to take away a moment in time in an artistic way, something that will last a lifetime. It’s a classic and timeless keepsake and many got an early start to Christmas shopping!  It was so great to see all the families doing it together and seeing a mother hold her newborn while getting it cut.
It was priceless…

We may need to make this our tradition and have Karl Johnson back at Pink Olive next year!

Our favorite old-school picks!

Hey there!

Back to school is a bittersweet time for many of us. It’s an ending and a beginning: the end of summer and the beginning of a brand new year at school! As sad as we all are to bid farewell to the warmer months, there is nothing as exciting as a blank slate. It’s a new opportunity to hold up those vows you make at this time every year; the promise to study harder, pay better attention, and learn something new. This year, our motto is – just do it! The rewards will be worth the extra effort. Equip yourself for this task with supplies you’ll really want to use. From kitty crayons and pencil cases to adorable new outfits and encouraging cards!

If you’re no longer in school, take this time to apply the same ideas to your various endeavors! You’re never too old for a little back-to-school shopping!

Happy back-to-school!
xoxo

If you work from home, create a workplace that will inspire you to focus on your craft. Working in a nice atmosphere will always bring out the best in you.

Here are five tips from Decorate by Holly Becker that will get your juices flowing:

1. Choose a desk that is large enough for all your paperwork, incorporates some storage, and has ample space for a computer and a printer if needed.

2. Lighting is important, so pick a desk lamp that lights both your work surface and your computer screen effectively.

3. If you are working in a dual-purpose space, make sure your work desk or workstation blends in with the rest of the decor rather than standing out as a specific work space.

4. Store superfluous equipment and materials behind closed doors or drawers so that you aren’t distracted by clutter when you are trying to concentrate.

5. Arrange your electrical wiring and sockets so that you have easy access to the telephone, computer, lighting, and music.

something about silhouettes… karl is coming!

Hey there!

Who is Karl you ask?

Karl Johnson is THE master silhouette artist. He has traveled the world cutting silhouettes of all shapes and sizes, and in just minutes (and using only a pair of scissors) Karl creates works of art from your profile. His limited vision (he can only see from his right eye) allows him to see and judge the world in a vastly different way than most people: by an object’s shadows. This ability lends itself perfectly to cutting silhouettes, which Karl has been doing since he was ten years old. You can see his work in movies such as Black Swan and locations around the world including the Hong Kong Disney Park. And now in your home as well!

On Saturday September 10th, bring even your squirmiest wormiest kids to get their silhouettes hand cut by master artist Karl Johnson.  Karl will be in our Park Slope store from 11am to 3pm. Children and adults of all ages are welcome! Each sitting lasts only 5 minutes.

Not in New York that weekend? Send us a photo of your loved one (pets included!) and get a silhouette cut from that! Contact us by phone, email or by placing an order on our website.
